Here are some pictures made at the 1957 Junior Senior Prom at the old Abbeville Armory. Prior to 1958, all boy's and girl's AHS basketball games, junior senior proms, and teentillion dances were held here. The theme of the prom was "The Old South." Our class was responsible for planning the affair and making the decorations. We built a somewhat crude facade of a southern mansion, complete with columns, at one end of the armory. A group of us went to the low-country region to get moss to hang from anything overhead. Bales of cotton were placed around the sides to serve refreshments from.
Here is a scan of one of the napkins from the food and punch tables.
Samuella Speer, Jean Wright, Johnny Lomax, and Marshall Leach are served punch by Queen from a bale of cotton. Queen, Mattie, and Bee were the three lunchroom ladies that I remember.
Marshall Leach and Jo Johnson.
Mike McCarthy and Mary Candis Walker.
Sitting are Jo Johnson, Eva Reames, Marie Nance, Jean Wright, Patsy Bradbury, and Gail Wells. Standing are Marshall Leach, Sammy Furman, and Bobby Byrd.
